Annual Wellness Visits Q & A
What is an annual wellness visit?
Why do I need an annual wellness visit?
If you feel healthy and don’t have any health problems, you might not think that you need to see a doctor. However, many health problems, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, don’t cause any noticeable symptoms in their early stages.
You have critical health screenings during your annual wellness exam
that show you and your doctor any changes in your health. These tests include:
- Blood pressure checks
- Cancer screenings
- Blood panels, including glucose and cholesterol tests
What happens during an annual wellness visit?
After you check in with the friendly office staff at CFP Physicians Group, a member of the clinical team takes you to an office where they weigh you and check your blood pressure and blood oxygenation. In some cases, you may need to have blood drawn before your annual wellness visit, or your doctor may provide a referral at your appointment.
Then you meet with your physician. Your doctor talks to you about your overall health, lifestyle, and any changes or symptoms that you’ve noticed. They listen to your heart and lungs, check your reflexes, and look into your ears, nose, and throat.
Your doctor also feels your abdomen for signs of inflammation and other abnormalities.
If necessary, your doctor can perform additional tests, including pelvic exams, Pap smears, and breast exams. If you need a referral for a mammogram or other radiographic testing, your doctor can provide a referral.
Take advantage of this opportunity to talk to your doctor about your health concerns. Your doctor is a valuable source of information to help you improve and protect your health.
